You need to enroll in a health plan by December 15th for a January 1, 2015 effective date!
During this open enrollment period we have had many people confused and answered many questions about when will my policy become effective? The Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (PPACA) or commonly called the Affordable Care Act (ACA) or even “ObamaCare” has dramatically changed the way we purchase Health Insurance.
The Affordable Care Act has created an open enrollment period in which anyone regardless of health conditions can buy a health insurance policy. This open enrollment period for 2015 is November 15, 2014 to February 15, 2015. To Qualify for a 1/1/2015 effective date you generally need to enroll and submit applications by December 15, 2014. Find your start date below based on when you enrolled.
Your Health Insurance start date based on when you enrolled
- January 1, 2015 start date if you enroll between November 15, 2014 to December 15, 2014.
- February 1, 2015 start date if you enroll between December 16, 2014 to January 15, 2015
- March 1, 2015 start date if you enroll between January 16, 2015 to February 15, 2015.
You must enroll in a health insurance plan by 2/15/2015 or you generally can’t purchase a health plan until the next open enrollment period. If you qualify for a “Special Enrollment Period” you have other options.
